Speech and Drama at Waverley is an ideal way to build your child’s self-confidence. Speech and Drama classes help children to express themselves, think outside the box and engage with the other children. Our classes are split into small groups allowing the children to build their confidence. The children have the opportunity to use their imagination and be led to express this through their bodies and movement.
The children participate in vocal activities and games, which help to build listening and attention skills, as the children follow instructions and respond when asked. The children also learn tongue twisters which help to improve communication & language and pronunciation, as they use repetition and take turns reciting these.
Lessons will help your child build up their vocabulary and communicate their thoughts to help improve their ability to ask questions, which is important for their learning. It can also play a supporting role for speech delays or impediments, by learning about voice projection and correct pronunciation, which then helps a child to be more confident when using communication and language.
Speech and Drama is one of a range of extra-curricular classes taught by specialist tutors (Peripatetic classes) to enable children to broaden their love of a chosen activity. With this class, pupils are also given the chance to work towards graded exams with many children choosing to work towards a Trinity College Speech and Drama examination each year.
